Does practice management software improve patient care?

Clinics ask us this in almost those words, and the honest answer is the same as for schools: the software does not treat anyone. What it does is make sure the person treating the patient has the whole picture, and that the practice runs without the doctor having to run it.

The record in the room

A returning patient in a paper practice is a folder someone has to find, with the last three visits in it if they were filed. With a patient record system the doctor opens the patient and sees every encounter, every prescription, every lab result, and the allergy noted two years ago, before the patient has sat down. Fewer repeated questions, fewer repeated tests, and the drug interaction that would have been missed on paper is on the screen.

The diary that does not need a phone call

Patients book on WhatsApp against the slots that are actually free; the day before, a reminder asks them to confirm or move it. No-shows fall, gaps get refilled, and the receptionist’s morning is spent on the person in front of her rather than the phone. A patient who can reach the practice without waiting on hold is a patient who comes back.

Money that arrives

The bill is raised from the encounter, the patient pays how they prefer, and for medical aid patients the claim is prepared in the format CIMAS, PSMAS or FMH expect. Fewer rejections, faster payment, and a practice that can afford to keep its best nurse.

Pharmacy and lab in the same record

A prescription goes to the dispensary with stock control, so dispensing reduces stock and a low stock warning comes before you run out of something a patient depends on. Lab orders and results attach to the patient, so the result is where the next doctor will look for it.

Data protection

Patient data is personal data under Zimbabwe’s data protection law. Hosting and access control are set up for that: role-based access (front desk, clinical, pharmacy), and the practice is the controller of its own data on its own site.

Which package

One doctor with a receptionist is a Solo Practice ($40 a month); a group sharing rooms is Multi-Practice; a clinic with a lab and pharmacy is Clinic; a hospital with departments is Hospital. Medical aid claims are a $30 add-on. Healthcare setup is done on site and includes bringing in the patient register. The clinic demo is open at easybiz.co.zw/demo.

The demo sites are live, no signup needed. When you are ready, pick a package and your own site is built minutes after payment.
